    About Project

This project focuses on the comprehensive assessment and transformation of a power generation facility to align with the operational, regulatory, and performance standards of the energy market in the Dominican Republic. Through a detailed technical and administrative audit, key opportunities for improvement were identified across operations, maintenance, workforce capabilities, and asset management.

The initiative includes the development of standardized procedures, implementation of advanced digital systems such as CMMS, and the integration of international best practices like KKS coding. It also addresses organizational structure, training programs, warehouse optimization, and environmental compliance.

By combining technical expertise with strategic improvements, this project is designed to enhance reliability, efficiency, safety, and long-term sustainability—positioning the plant for optimal performance in a competitive energy landscape.

    Our Client’s Challenge

The power plant faced a combination of technical and administrative challenges that limited its overall performance and compliance with industry standards. While key leadership had strong expertise, gaps in workforce training and competency alignment affected the execution of critical operational and maintenance tasks.

The absence of standardized procedures and a fully implemented CMMS system restricted access to historical data and hindered effective maintenance planning. Additionally, an unclear organizational structure, lack of continuous training programs, and outdated work practices reduced operational efficiency and consistency.

Operational risks were further increased by inadequate warehouse conditions for sensitive components and the need for improved site organization and environmental compliance. These challenges impacted reliability, efficiency, and the plant’s ability to meet the evolving demands of the energy market.

    Our Approach

In order to meet the required schedule, TransGas delegated procurement and construction management services to WSP. WSP’s procurement procedures allowed for the selection of contractors and material suppliers in an efficient manner while still ensuring traceability for insurance auditors.

    Outcome

As a result of our intervention, the power plant achieved a significant transformation in both operational and administrative performance. Standardized procedures and the implementation of a CMMS system provided full visibility of maintenance activities, enabling data-driven decision-making and improving planning accuracy.

Workforce capabilities were strengthened through structured training programs aligned with job roles, leading to safer operations, reduced human error, and increased efficiency. The organizational structure was optimized, ensuring clear responsibilities and better coordination across departments.

Improvements in warehouse management and site organization enhanced the protection of critical components and reinforced environmental compliance. The integration of international standards such as KKS elevated asset management practices to a world-class level.

Overall, the plant now operates with higher reliability, improved efficiency, reduced operational costs, and full alignment with the regulatory and performance standards of the energy market in the Dominican Republic.
